The 2021 Shanghai Exhibition Management Professional Technical Level Certification, Advanced, training course was successfully completed on April 24 at the Gubei Campus of Shanghai University of International Business and Economics.

A total of 42 trainees from the Yangtze River Delta region participated in this program. Fifteen government leaders, experts, scholars and entrepreneurs engaged in the exhibition industry in the Yangtze River Delta delivered lectures, shared information and passed on practical experience to the trainees.

Chen Xianjin, honorary president of UFI, director of the National Technical Committee for Exhibition Industry Standardization, Party secretary of the Shanghai Convention and Exhibition Industries Association, and co-dean of the Yangtze River Delta Exhibition Research Institute, delivered the first lecture under the title Review and Outlook of the International Exhibition Industry. Starting from his own career development and Expo 2010 Shanghai, he briefly analyzed the latest developments and trends of the international exhibition industry in three stages: before the pandemic, during the pandemic impact, and in the post-pandemic period. He also put forward targeted policy suggestions for the development of China's exhibition industry. The lecture was broad in perspective and international in vision.

Wang Sizheng, former deputy director of the Shanghai Municipal Development and Reform Commission, president of the Shanghai Macroeconomics Society, and specially appointed expert of the Yangtze River Delta Exhibition Research Institute, gave an excellent presentation titled A Century of Great Change: Innovating for the Future. He shared insights from eight aspects, including calmly responding to changes unseen in a century, seizing opportunities through opening up, technological innovation as the foundation of a strong country, and caring for people's livelihood and social governance.

Fang Hui, general manager of the Operation Center of National Exhibition and Convention Center, Shanghai, spoke on Management and Operation of Ultra-Large Exhibition Projects from the Perspective of the China International Import Expo. He shared views on the background and significance, main content and operating mechanism of the CIIE, with examples from the Canton Fair and Auto Shanghai.

Li Zhengwei, vice president of Yunshang Exhibition Co., Ltd., gave a lecture on Strategy and Tactics: Digital Strategies and Practical Applications in the Exhibition Industry, sharing research results on strategic thinking and analysis for exhibition digitalization as well as practical applications of digital tactics for exhibitions.

Jiang Gangsheng, director of the Pudong New Area Convention and Exhibition Promotion Center, focused on the ecosystem of green exhibitions. He explored the future development of green exhibitions in China from three perspectives: green venues, green projects and organizers, and the public support system for green exhibitions.

Ren Guoyan, a specially appointed expert of the Yangtze River Delta Exhibition Research Institute, introduced the concepts and characteristics of the exhibition industry. Under the theme Thoughts on Innovative Development of Urban Exhibition Industries, he explained the value of urban exhibition industry development and shared strategic thinking on urban exhibition industries during the Fourteenth Five-Year Plan period.

Ji Lude, former director of the Thematic Events Department of the Shanghai World Expo Bureau and specially appointed expert of the Yangtze River Delta Exhibition Research Institute, spoke on reflections on management principles. He shared professional experience on management requirements arising from organizational nature, general enterprise management, exhibition enterprise management and management skills.

Wan Tao, CEO of Shanghai Bayantu Information Technology Co., Ltd., also known as 31Event, delivered a lecture on Digital Transformation of Exhibition Enterprises and Practice and Exploration of New Digital Exhibition Infrastructure, focusing on exhibition digitalization.


Pan Jianjun, chairman of Meorient International Exhibition, spoke on the IPO path for exhibition enterprises. He introduced the general situation of China's capital market, IPO rules and value, challenges faced by exhibition enterprises in going public, and possible IPO paths for exhibition enterprises.

Professor Shi Baoming of the School of Cultural Creativity and Management at Zhejiang University of Media and Communications and specially appointed expert of the Yangtze River Delta Exhibition Research Institute lectured on the historical evolution and development strategies of smart exhibitions. Under the theme New Opportunities for Smart Exhibition Development, he organized the content around human civilization, the origin of smart exhibitions, definitions of smart exhibitions, domestic developments, existing issues, and the significance of smart exhibition development.

Sang Jingmin, president of the Shanghai Convention and Exhibition Industries Association, general manager of Shanghai Baiwen Exhibition Co., Ltd., and co-executive dean of the Yangtze River Delta Exhibition Research Institute, spoke on Strategic Thinking for Exhibition Enterprises Based on Customer Needs. He introduced industry knowledge including the overview of the exhibition industry, strategy formulation and strategic planning for exhibition enterprises.

Xu Huijuan, president of the Wuxi Council for the Promotion of International Trade and specially appointed expert of the Yangtze River Delta Exhibition Research Institute, spoke on the market-oriented transformation path of government exhibitions, explaining in detail what government exhibitions are, their advantages and disadvantages, and how they can transform.

On the last day of the training, Wang Chunlei, dean of the School of Exhibition and Tourism at Shanghai University of International Business and Economics and co-executive dean of the Yangtze River Delta Exhibition Research Institute, spoke on changes in exhibition service scenarios and innovation in business models. His lecture covered changes in exhibition service scenarios, innovation in exhibition business models, and several suggestions for domestic exhibition organizers.

Ding Ye, director of the Department of Exhibition Economy and Management at Shanghai University of International Business and Economics and deputy dean of the Yangtze River Delta Exhibition Research Institute, spoke on innovation in the operation and management of art venues based on market research on Shanghai art museums. She explained research findings on art museums versus museums, the current market situation and development trends of Shanghai art museums, and the evaluation index system for Shanghai art museums. She concluded with the example of the art exhibition Refined Art Serving the Nation, commemorating the 100th anniversary of Cheng Shifa's birth, to share the curatorial process for art exhibitions.

In addition, as a special session, the trainees experienced archery at Shanghai University of International Business and Economics, giving them a different exhibition activity experience beyond classroom learning.

Under the moderation of Dr. Li Yanxia from the Department of Exhibition Economy and Management at Shanghai University of International Business and Economics, the trainees also took part in a World Cafe activity. As a new event model, World Cafe is widely used for discussion and sharing, and it provided the trainees with broad opportunities for participation and interaction.

Ding Ye, director of the Department of Exhibition Economy and Management at Shanghai University of International Business and Economics and deputy dean of the Yangtze River Delta Exhibition Research Institute, set out the requirements for the closing papers of the training course. Tu Jianqing, secretary-general of the Shanghai Convention and Exhibition Industries Association and deputy dean of the Yangtze River Delta Exhibition Research Institute, delivered the training summary.

The Shanghai Exhibition Management Professional Technical Level Certification, Advanced, training course is a branded training program independently developed and launched by the Shanghai Convention and Exhibition Industries Association, and enjoys a strong reputation in the industry. Under the cooperation framework between the association and Shanghai University of International Business and Economics, this year's training was organized by the Yangtze River Delta Exhibition Research Institute jointly established by the two parties. Intermediate training, customized training outside Shanghai and other programs will also be launched in succession, with the aim of cultivating more high-quality professional exhibition talent for Shanghai and other provinces and cities in the Yangtze River Delta.
