About SCEIA

Shanghai Convention & Exhibition Industries Association (SCEIA)

Founded in April 2002, Shanghai Convention & Exhibition Industries Association (SCEIA) is a cross-sectoral, multi-ownership and non-profit social organization with a legal-person status, which is voluntarily constituted by enterprises and institutions in Shanghai engaged in conferences and exhibitions as well as relevant services. It is a new-type industry association of broad representativeness.

Following the principle of “voluntary membership and free withdrawal”, SCEIA stresses both on membership scale and quality, and it has formed a dynamic entry-exit mechanism for membership development, boasting nearly 600 active members for the time being. Its membership basically covers the entire industrial chain, with members engaging in various areas such as exhibition organization, venue operation, display engineering, education & training, and event planning. Members come from Shanghai, the Yangtze River Delta region, and other municipalities and provinces, making SCEIA a highly representative association with extensive coverage.

Since its establishment, SCEIA has adhered to its mandate as an independent, service-oriented association under standardized governance promoting industry self-discipline. Assisting the government in industry regulation, it has made tremendous contributions to safeguarding the legitimate rights of members, enhancing industry-wide caliber, strengthening self-regulatory mechanisms of the industry, promoting industry certification and training, and organizing international exchanges and cooperation, and built a harmonious platform for communication between the government and enterprises.

In 2012, SCEIA became a member of the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI), marking its embarkation on a new phase of internationalization and branding. In the same year, SCEIA was honored as a 5A Social Organization in China by Shanghai Civil Affairs Bureau, making it the first 5A association in China’s exhibition industry. To date, the association has defended this title in two reassessments. In 2021, SCEIA was recognized as a Brand Social Organization in Shanghai and included in the list of Top 100 Outstanding Social Organizations. In 2025, during the selection and commendation event of the 4th Session of "Advanced Social Organizations in Shanghai" co-organized by the Shanghai Civil Affairs Bureau and the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Human Resources and Social Security, SCEIA was honored with the title of "Advanced Social Organization in Shanghai".
