Sang Jingmin, the newly elected president, said that continuing to serve as president of the new council was an important trust placed in him by higher-level leaders and colleagues in the exhibition industry. He sincerely thanked the Party committee for municipal-level industry associations, the Municipal Commission of Commerce, the Civil Affairs Bureau and the association's Party committee for their trust, and thanked Shanghai exhibition industry colleagues for their support and help. The new council was established at the beginning of 2023, at a time when opportunities and challenges coexist at home and abroad. Revitalizing Shanghai's exhibition industry and fully realizing the 14th Five-Year Plan goal of building Shanghai into an international exhibition capital will be the top priority of the new council. Under the guidance of the Municipal Commission of Commerce, the association will formulate implementation opinions according to the operating guidelines and fully promote the recovery of Shanghai's exhibition industry. The overall strategy is to be based in China, look toward Asia, advance online and offline together, and pursue innovative development. The association will strongly support enterprises in innovation and development, repair the exhibition industry chain, especially the main service enterprises such as display engineering companies that carry major service functions, strictly conduct qualification review, and help the industry restart with business, goals and quality, so that Shanghai's exhibition industry can make steady progress and reach new heights.

Chen Xianjin, Party secretary and honorary president of the association, said in his speech that the difficult year of 2022 had passed and 2023, full of hope and challenge, had arrived. Looking back on the past three years, the world has changed and the industry has also changed. He offered three suggestions on how to work hard to regain lost time, business and markets. First, the industry should maintain a positive mindset, believe in the power of dreams and goals, and believe in the strength of teams and individuals. Second, it should accept the changes of the past three years with an open mind, accommodate change, embrace challenges and learn the unknown. Third, it should maintain a mindset of starting from zero. Past success cannot reveal the laws of future development. Only with a reset mindset can the industry begin again and move toward the future. All exhibition professionals should use hard work as ink and results as answers, muster energy and strive to move ahead, aiming to restore Shanghai's exhibition industry to its 2019 level within one to two years.

Zhu Xiang, Party secretary of the municipal-level industry association committee, attended the meeting, offered congratulations and delivered a speech. Zhang Guohua, deputy director of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, and Huang Jingbo, head of the social organizations division of the Shanghai Civil Affairs Bureau, delivered video speeches.

Huang Jingbo said the association has actively served the government, guided industry self-discipline, built self-discipline platforms, strengthened talent development and played a clear role in internal self-regulation. It was selected as a Shanghai Brand Social Organization in 2021 and can be regarded as a leader among municipal industry associations. The year 2023 is the opening year for implementing the spirit of the 20th National Congress and a key year linking the first and second halves of the 14th Five-Year Plan. He hoped the association would follow that spirit, base itself on the new development stage, implement the new development concept and create a new development pattern for the city's exhibition industry. It should adhere to democratic and law-based association operation, continuously strengthen its own development, improve its legal-person governance structure, and handle internal matters through democratic, consultative, open and fair methods, setting an example for improving Shanghai's social organization development and management model in line with the city's development as a socialist international metropolis.

Zhu Xiang introduced that the candidates for president, vice presidents, secretary-general and other leaders of the new association session had been reviewed by the municipal-level industry association Party committee. During the formation process, political guidance was upheld, and support for Party leadership and Party-building work was taken as one of the basic conditions for holding leadership positions in the association. He put forward three points for the new council: consistently promote the effective implementation in the association of the spirit of the 20th National Congress and the 12th Shanghai Party Congress; consistently take Party-building leadership as the foundation, firmly establish the purpose of serving members, government and society, and focus on enterprise pain points, difficulties and bottlenecks; and consistently pursue innovation, build consensus, forge ahead and actively explore the creation of a Party-building brand for Shanghai's exhibition industry, continuously strengthening the Party's political leadership, ideological guidance, organizational strength among the public and social appeal within the association.

In light of the current situation, he also put forward several requirements for the new team: build exchange platforms and expand international openness and cooperation; strengthen self-development and play the role of a bridge and link; and reinforce service functions and build the Shanghai Exhibition Services brand. He hoped that under the leadership of the new association team, Shanghai's exhibition industry would comprehensively improve its international competitiveness and work to build Shanghai into an international exhibition capital with a more mature market mechanism, more dynamic exhibition enterprises, more clustered branded exhibitions and stronger global influence.
