From China's top technology fair to a world-class technology event, the China Hi-Tech Fair has traveled an 18-year journey. Generations of Chinese technology giants have gone global from this platform, and leading advanced technologies from around the world have gathered here and burst into view.

On November 21, the 18th China Hi-Tech Fair concluded successfully. It witnessed the new adjustment of China's economic structure, the innovative strength of Chinese enterprises in transformation and upgrading, and the major technological changes taking place in the global technology industry.

This year's fair was held in a crucial year for advancing structural reform. Under the theme of innovation-driven development and quality leadership, it comprehensively displayed China's achievements in promoting innovation and entrepreneurship and leading industrial transformation and upgrading. The fair actively served as a platform for promoting international scientific and technological exchange and cooperation, deep integration of technology and the economy, cultivation and development of emerging industries, and industrialization of high-tech achievements. Its role as an industry, technology and innovation barometer in the high-tech field became even more prominent.

On the afternoon of November 21, the media briefing for the 18th China Hi-Tech Fair was held in Rose Hall 3 on the fifth floor of the convention and exhibition center. Gao Yuyue, deputy secretary-general of the fair organizing committee and deputy secretary-general of the Shenzhen municipal government; Su Yanwei, deputy director of the organizing committee office and director of Shenzhen China International High-Tech Achievements Trading Center; and nearly one hundred media reporters attended the briefing.

This year's fair included exhibitions, forums and conferences, related activities, and a year-round online transaction platform. The total exhibition area reached 150,000 square meters. A total of 3,533 exhibitors from 37 countries participated, and 23,334 projects were exhibited or entered into the project database. The main venue and sub-venues received 589,000 visits from 97 countries and regions, while 2,441 reporters from 331 domestic and overseas media organizations covered the event.

Exhibitors and projects

The fair set up the national high-tech exhibition, innovation and research exhibition, foreign delegation exhibition area, Belt and Road pavilion, information technology and products exhibition, energy conservation and environmental protection exhibition, new energy exhibition, smart city exhibition, new electronic technologies and applications exhibition, optoelectronic display exhibition, aerospace exhibition, high-tech services area, technology-based small and micro enterprise exhibition area, individual technology innovation exhibition area, maker exhibition area, unmanned systems sub-venue, and high-tech talent and intelligence exchange sub-venue.

The total exhibition area reached 150,000 square meters. The 3,533 exhibitors brought 23,334 high-tech projects and products covering AR and VR, the Internet of Things, intelligent manufacturing, internet plus, big data, energy conservation and environmental protection, unmanned systems, artificial intelligence, smart cities, aerospace, new energy, new materials, optoelectronic flat panels and modern agriculture. Forty-three foreign delegations from 30 countries and international organizations participated, including 33 delegations from 23 Belt and Road countries in the Belt and Road pavilion.

Participants

Through online visitor pre-registration, group visitor invitations and cooperation with professional organizations to provide fair-related travel services, the event attracted 589,000 visits from 97 countries and regions to the main venue and sub-venues. Large numbers of investors, buyers, distributors, researchers, technicians, designers, managers, marketing professionals and media reporters from around the world appeared at the fair. The professional visitor popularity index reached 240, meaning each booth received an average of 240 professional visitors per day.

Forums and related activities

During the fair, national ministries and commissions, provincial and municipal delegations, the organizing committee office and professional organizations held many high-level forums, releases, promotions and matchmaking activities, further enhancing the professionalism and authority of forums and related activities. According to statistics, 243 high-level forums, professional technology forums, industry salons and technical meetings were held. Thirty-two foreign senior government officials, Nobel laureates, academicians, well-known experts and scholars from China and abroad, leaders of related institutions and multinational companies, and famous entrepreneurs from China and overseas participated in forums and delivered speeches.

Exhibition services

This year's fair made further efforts to improve refined services and introduced more personalized services suited to the needs of exhibitors and participants.

First, the original visual identity was optimized, including the logo and main color system, to make it simpler and more international.

Second, a dedicated fair app was developed to better serve exhibitors, professional visitors, media and guests, and to improve exhibition services through modern information technology.

Third, on-site services were improved. Measures included unified uniforms for on-site service personnel, a new self-service exhibition information inquiry area, new hotel-to-main-venue shuttle bus services, formulation and training on etiquette standards for the fair, and WeChat Pay for on-site ticketing.

Fourth, a visitor voting activity for the ten most popular products at the fair was held to increase visitor participation and strengthen interaction among visitors, the fair, exhibitors and exhibits.

Fifth, meeting areas were set up inside exhibition zones and professional meetings and salons were organized to promote mutual enhancement between conferences and exhibitions.

Sixth, an international information release area was set up in the foreign exhibition area to focus on serving foreign government delegations, institutions and enterprises and to improve exhibitor services.

After 18 years of development, the fair's direction toward becoming a world-class exhibition has become clearer and its steps more stable. The China Hi-Tech Fair will continue to work with all sectors of society on the path toward building a world-class exhibition and adding new momentum to the development of China's high-tech industries.
