The 44th Sofia International Book Fair opened recently in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, with the China Book & Foreign Trade (Group) Corporation bringing its "Belt and Road" themed book exhibition to Bulgaria for the first time.

The opening ceremony of the book fair was held at the Bulgarian National Cultural Palace. Publishers from China, Russia, Italy, Spain, Hungary, Romania, Turkey, and Iran, as well as over 200 Bulgarian publishing companies, participated in this international book fair.

Mr. Todorov, President of the Bulgarian Publishers Association, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony, stating that the Sofia International Book Fair is the largest book fair in Bulgaria, has a certain influence in Europe, and is the result of the love and support of readers.

The China Book & Foreign Trade (Group) Corporation set up a 30-square-meter booth at the fair, showcasing over 500 high-quality books in categories such as Chinese-themed books, Chinese textbooks, children's literature, traditional culture, literature, and social science literature, and also held events such as the promotion of Chinese-themed books and the introduction of the Beijing Book Fair.

Journalists observed that the multilingual editions of "Xi Jinping: Governance Thoughts" and other exquisite books displayed at the Chinese booth attracted many Bulgarian readers, who stopped to view or purchase them on the spot.

Ms. Ni Hongrui, Customer Manager at the China Book & Foreign Trade (Group) Corporation, introduced to Xinhua reporters that in recent years, the interest and attention towards Chinese culture from countries along the "Belt and Road" have been constantly increasing. The company's "Belt and Road" themed book exhibition project has been successfully held in Indonesia, Croatia, Albania, and the United Arab Emirates.

Ms. Ni Hongrui stated that Bulgaria is the fifth country to host the "Belt and Road" themed book exhibition. She hopes to showcase excellent Chinese books and Chinese culture to the Bulgarian people through the book fair, allowing them to better understand contemporary China, and also to help Bulgarian publishing companies quickly understand the Chinese publishing market, strengthen cooperation between Chinese and Bulgarian cultural publishing units, and further expand the visibility and influence of China in countries along the "Belt and Road" and its surrounding countries.
